Welcome to WoundedTigerMusic.com, where we champion a creative and self-directed approach to your musical journey. Our focus extends beyond just mastering an instrument; we're here to empower you with the tools and knowledge to explore the vast world of music on your own terms.
We believe in a quick-start path, getting students creating and playing with others right away. Our emphasis is on improvisation and learning to craft your own arrangements. If your goal is to meticulously duplicate other people's music, note for note, we can certainly recommend some excellent teachers for that "Paint-by-Number Picasso" approach. But here, we're all about "noodling around" and discovering your unique musical voice.
We delve into the practical side of music, teaching you:
How gear works and how to get the most out of your equipment.
Effective use of online resources to expand your learning.
Engaging jam sessions and other group musical activities, because playing music is about connection and fun!
We believe that a successful music student combines desire to learn with a teacher who customizes the journey. We'll explore options like playing by ear, using chord charts, lead sheets, fake books, and backing tracks, offering alternatives beyond traditional sight-reading. We also emphasize the importance of having the right gear, and our instrument tech can help beginners find the perfect fit.
Our curriculum is designed to give you a well-rounded musical foundation:
Rhythm Instrument: You'll start with a simple rhythm instrument like bongos to master counting beats independently.
Chord Instrument: Learn basic chord concepts on a keyboard, guitar in open tuning, or ukulele.
Melody Instrument: Explore melodies with an accessible instrument such as a diatonic penny whistle or a chromatic recorder.
We work hands-on with your projects, helping you write your own arrangements and songs. If you're ready to perform, we'll even accompany you and provide coaching during your performances. Plus, we'll guide you through the exciting world of music distribution tools and how to use them.
Learning music is far more than just instrument mastery. It's about experimentation, communication with other musicians, and profound self-expression. With an understanding of a few basic concepts, it's easier and more rewarding than you might think!
